SAINT-AIGNAN
Collegiate Church from the 11th and 12th centuries and crypt from the 11th century. Built on the site of a modest chapel dedicated to Saint John, the underground church used as a base for the collegiate church was built starting in the 11th century. The apse, the sanctuary and the transept, also from the 11th century, are in pure Romanesque style. Construction of the church continued until the end of the 12th century. The nave is 16.4 m (54 ft) high under the vault and is supported by eight columns with capitals, many of which have had to be restored. Notre Dame des Miracles Chapel was added in the 15th century. It is totally covered with original paintings referring to the four Evangelists. In the crypt you can admire the sumptuous 12th and 13th-century frescoes. Free self visit.
