The building was enlarged from its 15th century origins over several stages. The first series of works were in the 17th and 19th centuries. All that remains of the original construction are the square-based octagonal tower and the western wing with its abutting rounded tower. In the 17th century, a lateral corps de logis with a perpendicular pavilion was added to the 15th century building. The building as it is today is the result of 19th century construction work. This included a building which adjoins the 17th century edifice behind a corbelled watchtower. Beyond the esplanade, which is marked out by a moat, commons were added during the period to replace ruined buildings.
